Icons: The Barcelona Chair

photos:  1/2

One thing I did not come home with from Barcelona was a proper souvenir (unless you count a pound or two from eating too many patatas bravas).  A pair of these would do quite nicely...... (if I save all my pennies for a long, long while). I was surprised to find out that they weren't designed by a Spaniard at all;  they were actually designed by the German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for the king and queen to sit in at the German Pavilion during the 1929 Barcelona Exposition (picture that contrast).  And so it goes,  I love the yin and yang they create when they appear unexpectedly in an otherwise traditional space.... ha.... perfectly in keeping with my experience of the city....

  1. Wonder if I could convince my husband they would be a good investment?! :)
