Food: Ham & Cheese Turnovers

It has been a while since I've chatted about a food other than chocolate and Nutella.  So, lest you think our diet has gone completely awry, I thought I'd share a recently discovered and super easy favorite that doesn't include either!

Serves 4
Hands-On Time: 15 minutes Total Time: 35 minutes

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 400° F. Roll the pizza dough into a 14-inch circle and cut into 8 triangles.
  2. Stack a slice of ham and cheese and some onion on the bottom of each triangle and roll the dough up around the filling. (Some will stick out the ends.)
  3. Transfer the rolls to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake until golden and crisp, about 20 minutes.
  4. Combine the mustard and oil in a medium bowl and toss with the romaine. Serve with the turnovers.

Given that my French label reading isn't quite up to par yet, I've mistakenly made these with puff pastry instead of pizza dough and they were equally delicious.  We've also customized ours to suit our various family member's tastes....... no onions, turkey instead of ham, Gruyere instead of Swiss, add spinach..... it all seems to come out yummy.  The only things I would add are a glass of white wine and, ok, a piece of dark chocolate afterwards to create the perfect Saturday lunch in.......

Bon appetit and Bon weekend!

  2. Used to do something similar with crescent rolls- ham and cheese, reubens, even taco style. Forgot about this one! Thanks for reminding us!
