A Swiss Miss.....

........ it seems that is what I'm destined to become.  It still hasn't completely sunk in, but while you are reading this my guy and I will be in Switzerland checking out schools and finding a home for our family to move to this summer for three or so years. When I first learned of my husband's job transfer a couple of months ago, I thought "God sure has a funny sense of humor" for we had recently gone through a complete gutting and renovation of our "forever" house (moving out for a year) and were happily embarking on our cozy and wonderful "forever" life in the city where both Chris, I and our three girls were born.

But as is often the case...... God has different plans for our family...... ones that involve leaving our comfort zone; loosening our grip on some material things and embracing the unknown......

....... in an amazingly breathtaking setting.....

...... and for that, I say "thank you."

So big picture, I'm good...... excited about the potential for travel; experiencing a new culture; opening my girls' eyes to the bigger world out there and trusting that everything is going to be great.  Little picture; not so good...... I'm "freaking out" about all that has to be done; what we're going to do with our house; how exactly you ship 100 stuffed animals and a tween (my middle schooler) across the ocean intact; the fact that none of us speak French; how I'm going to survive sticker shock and get all my laundry done in those teeny tiny washer and dryers! :)....... not to mention the emotional side of things like leaving friends and family..... eeek!  I'm tackling one thing at a time.

....This week's question to be answered........ what exactly do kitchens look like in Switzerland..... I'm guessing not like the ones on my Pinterest board!?!? :)

Can't wait to catch up with you all when I return!

  3. Wow...what a change, but but glad for you that it's an adventure and not permanent. I have always said that if I had to leave the US, Switzerland would be my Country of choice. It's spectacularly beautiful and such nice, friendly people. Wishing you great success this week with your hunt!!

  6. Oh wow! I read this and realized there is someone in the world going through the exact same thing as me with all of the mixed emotions. We are considering a move to London (luckily they speak english!) - definitely scary and exciting to say the least.

  12. Oh my gosh, I am so excited for you all! My only experience with what Switzerland is like is from watching House Hunters International and from what I can tell everything over there is miniature. Exactly like you said about the washing machine, teeny tiny.

It will all be worth it though, I would jump on that adventure in a heartbeat. Can't wait to hear more.

  13. How exciting!! I lived abroad for 11 years, and I wouldn't have had it any other way. And Switzerland is WAY prettier than the places I lived! You should write to Sarah from Fairy Tales are True...if you're not familiar with her, she lived in Switzerland and always posted the most amazing pictures of her life there. I'm sure she would have tons of advice! :)

I've been perusing your blog this morning getting excited about our new adventures to come. And yes, I'm currently feeling all the things you mentioned in this post!! EEK is right. A month to pack and purge our entire house! We are house/apt. hunting in January. It'll be nice to know where we'll finally hang our hat. Look forward to following along all your adventures as they will serve as great tips for us on our future travels.;) Happy Holidays!
