Interiors: Table lamps in the Kitchen

One of the growing trends that I really love is that of "warming" up the kitchen with elements like framed art, oriental rugs or in this case........ table lamps.  I'm seeing more and more table lamps used in pairs on the island or the windowsill in place of pendants or recessed lighting and while they may take up more space and aren't for the clumsy (or the kid filled home:))......they certainly add generous doses of charm (especially at night) and flexibility for the frequent redecorator.

All that said, however, my favorite way to see a table lamp in the kitchen is to actually not notice it at all at first..... the one tucked into the corner...... not the star of the room but the unexpected treasure waiting to be discovered..... a bit of that quirk I love so much in a home.  Not to mention.... a friendly beacon for the late night Girl Scout cookie munchies! :)

Crazy or Cool?  Would you ever use a table lamp in your kitchen?

  2. All beautiful however I'm with you. A little light in a corner, under a cabinet - subtle. With so much dark/grey weather here in the Pacific Northwest, I need to add light where I can. I have two small lamps that I use in my kitchen. Both are small and in corners - I even have those girl scout cookies :)

I'm still looking for the perfect oriental rug. I have two dogs and lots of activity in my home so whatever rug I purchase will need to be able to handle that. The rugs I like are pricey and I don't want it to get ruined!

  4. I love this idea as long as cords weren't running across the counters/islands!

  5. I don't think I could make it work in our space, but I really love the look. I think you're right- the best ones are those that work so well you don't notice them right away. What a beautiful collection of photos!

  6. I love the look of this however I am fairly certain our family would be knocking these over on a regular basis. Read: not graceful.

  7. I love the look but I cook way too much (and use up all the counter space) to give up precious room for lamps. Again I like the look of lamps but I hate having them because I know my kids would just break em' all, so we have recessed lighting in every room. I love it.

  8. I have actually tried this, as I have a desk built in my kitchen. Just not sure what to do about the cord, and don't want to but sockets in my countertops...hmmmm...

  9. I love this idea, and the examples you've shown are beautiful. If only I had more room in my kitchen!
