Crafts: Monogrammed ornaments

I love to make my girls an ornament each year and this year I was inspired by this image:

Southern Living

If you have been reading this blog for more than oh three days :); you know about my love for: 1) red in interiors; 2) plaid; and 3) monograms.  So I went to Michaels and bought some wood "grainesque" looking hoops; grabbed some fabric that has been waiting to be used on pillows; and headed to my dear friend's (who also happens to be an embroiderer) house where she whipped these up for me:

Now, I know they may only qualify as "semi-homemade" to the hard core crafters but it makes no difference to me.  I "made them happen" as my girlfriend says. :)  And, I love how they turned out.  They will make their first appearance as a gift tag on a Christmas present.....

and find their home in our tree on Christmas Day......

I love this project so much that I think I may try the same idea of monogramming a piece of fabric and framing it instead to create a piece of Christmas art.  Or creating more ornaments by hooping scraps of fabric that have sentimental value (my girls' Christmas outfits, my husband's favorite (but worn out) shirt....) to add an even more personal touch next year.

  1. This is such a great idea. I love the idea of using an old Christmas outfit or shirt. So smart and stylish!

  2. Those are just adorable! Wish I had a friend who happened to be an embroiderer.
