LOL...
... to the funny ones…. whether they mean to be or not (sorry, buddy); to the ones (like my brother) whose laugh is contagious and spreads like wildfire (even if you aren't in the same room); to the family friends who always have a cache of hysterical YouTube videos at the ready and my girls whose giggles make my heart swell 1000 fold…. to reminiscing on belly laughs from childhood for the 100th time… to Jimmy Fallon…. for making life a little lighter and a whole lot more fun, I say "thank you!"...

XOXO...
| House of Marlowe |
Each afternoon as I walk thru the vineyards I spy them….. some days one or two; other days 15 pairs of couples both young and old walking hand in hand or arm in arm. It's the elderly ones that warm my heart the most…. the sweetness, the commitment, the enjoying each other's company…. I'm left wondering if the choosing to walk together holding hands helps to create the closeness or if a closeness precipitates wanting to stroll hand in hand…. also, have they been doing this for years, or has the quietness of life bared a new tender fruit of affection?….
….whatever the case; I want that…. both today 20 years into my marriage and 50 years from now; when all worldly things have faded and we're left with each other and the story we've created together… I want to be seen walking down the path together…. holding hands...
Cheers to love this Valentine's Day...

Merry Christmas!
…. I know I'm about 17 days early; but life away from the computer beckons as relatives arrive from the States today and we embark on days filled with school concerts, travels, Christmas crafts, baking, and, in general, getting our "merry" on :) …. I'll be posting my usual daily inspiration on Instagram (aka mostly pics of my kids :) ); but likely won't be back around here until the new year. In the meantime, wishing everyone a Christmas filled with love, laughter, and hope from our family to yours….
Rejoice! Jesus is Born!

On Holiday....
My girls' last day of school was yesterday.... so our summer can get started at last! (cue jumping up and down) So excited to give up being the 'task master' for a few short weeks in favor of spending the days with my girls (and guy); traveling to the States to visit friends & family; lounging by the pool; catching fireflies; eating peaches; reading books; taking late afternoon naps; playing games and just lingering... a lot...
I'll be keeping up my photo a day tradition on Instagram but I'll be giving this Mac here some much needed R&R as well... Be back in a few weeks!
Happy Summer everyone!

A Walk to Remember...
Switzerland is absolutely beautiful right now. The wisteria is blooming, the grape vines are just starting to show signs of new growth; everything smells lovely and there are huge fields of spectacular rapeseed dotting the landscape.... it's like nothing I've ever seen before. I am in awe of God's creativity and blessing of beauty in nature.

On Life & Baklava...
You know those childhood memories that just stick with you?.... the good ones that you have no idea why they left such an impression; they just did... and that's that. Well, one of mine involves standing around the counter of my Girl Scout troop leader's house in grade school. I've long since forgotten the grade I was in and most everything else about Girls Scouts for that matter (minus Thin Mints, Samoas and all of those fantastic badges ofcourse).... but I remember that particular meeting; the kitchen and the late afternoon light and the bunch of us girls staring down in amazement at all that nutty, sticky goodness.... many of us having never made anything in the kitchen before. She told us about her Greek heritage and the history of this dessert.... all the while letting us take turns carefully putting down the layers (I swear she said there were a hundred) and we laughed and she laughed.... and it felt good.
Decades have passed since then and I can count on one hand the times I have eaten baklava. I quickly learned that it isn't a common offering; at least in your typical American eateries.... so it always comes as a pleasant surprise to see it on a menu or hear it included in the list of desserts the waiter is rambling off. And each time without fail, my heart skips in delight and my mind starts reminiscing.... and I'm obliged to tell anyone who is around about the story of the woman who was crazy and wonderful enough to host of gaggle of giggling girls to one of the messiest desserts known to man... and smile about it.
This woman; my troop leader and the mother of dear friends passed away last week..... and, yep, the first thing that came to mind when I heard the news was... baklava. I don't think she'd mind that that is the legacy she left with me for it is filled with sweetness, warmth and love.... one hundred layers worth...

Crazy Good....
Aside from friends, family, the English language (and the occasional barbecue sandwich); the thing I miss most about the States is listening to American music on the radio.... country music, and the station 104.3 in Cincinnati. (KLOVE). That's why I was over the moon a few months ago when I was able to start streaming it from my computer in Switzerland. I listen while I'm doing housework in the morning, cooking dinner; while the kids are playing... The music lifts my spirits in songs that offer assurance of God's love on those not so good days and allows me to worship in a spirit of gratefulness on the days that are amazing.
So... imagine my delight when I was folding clothes while Holden & Marlowe were in the bathtub a couple of nights ago and I hear the sweet voice of Marlowe (age 4) singing the song "Bless the Lord oh my Soul"..... knowing all the words and repeating the verses over and over. I thought my heart would literally burst with God's goodness in that moment....
.... those little ears have been listening along with me the whole time.
.... "let me be singing when the evening comes."...

Bucking the trend....
I saw this on Pinterest a week or two ago and it really resonated with me....
In a society where a jam packed schedule has become a status symbol; I'm embracing this truth.
Space to breathe, space to think original thoughts, space to just be.... the stuff that makes this girl happiest.

R&R.....
..... that's what this weekend calls for. We've just finished hosting guests for 47 days straight and I'm giving myself a pass this weekend to take it easy.... cozying up by a fire, Friday night pizza night, watching a movie I've been meaning to see, a long walk, a little pampering and sipping hot cocoa with my girls...
I woke up this morning with the phrase "game on" in my head..... my subconscious reminding me that now that Halloween is over..... there's no time to waste getting ready for the holidays. I'm just going to ignore that voice for now.... :)
